Random Thought: Herbs

You could name a child Rosemary, Jasmine, Lavender, Sage, Basil...maybe even Marjoram, Saffron, or Curry. But I think naming your kid Cilantro, Cumin, Tarragon, or Oregano would not win you any parenting awards.

Coriander is one I'm on the fence about. I mean, you can nickname the kid Corie/Cory...

An acquaintance of mine did exactly this. This is among many reasons I think she is psycho.

Yeah, Cumin would be deadly by late elementary or middle school years.

"Cumin! Time for dinner! And tell your brother Dill Weed to come home also." — *collective neighbourhood snickers*

Cinnamon could work as a girl's name, though.

I argue your classification of cinnamon. Cinnamon is a spice, not an herb. Clearly, spice names are a whole different post.

For that matter, you could name a kid "Herb," but naming one "Spice" is probably reserved only for ex-British pop-stars.

Anise and Basil.

Maybe not so much for Thyme, Chive, and Clove, though. Lemongrass seems ill-advised. Garlic is right out.

Forget all that. The worst plant-based name ever would be...
Asfoetida.

Oh, I don't know. I think Bladderwort, Cancerwort, or Stinkwort would be worse than Asafoetida. :)
