Matt is finally allowing me to stand up in his presence without running away in abject terror. Until I look at him for too long, anyway. In fact, he approached me last night when I entered the room. It was just strange enough that I stopped and bent down to pet him.

At which point, he ran away because, you know, I "lunged" at him.

<sigh> We're getting there, but it's a bit slow. :)

While Matt has never voluntarily jumped into my lap, last night while I had The New Computer *shiny chord* in my lap, he decided it was time to think about doing just that. Every once in a while, he'd stand on his hind feet and put his front paws on the arm of the chair and look at me and the computer with big, wide eyes. I kept inviting him up, but he's not quite there, yet.

Lucy has decided that she doesn't have to be within three feet of me at all times, and has taken to lying in the hallway or my closet or in the kitchen instead of underfoot. This is a good thing, because I have already tripped over her several times, eliciting a yowl! of indignant outrage and pain. Which is prevalent (the outrage or the pain) depends on whether I actually step on her or she manages to get out of the way.

In addition to Matt's obsession with Publix's store-brand honey-almond yogurt, he also apparently likes strawberry cobbler from Sweet Bones Alabama. Licked the Styrofoam clean, he did.1

Matt has discovered the windows, and is very annoyed by the metal things that cover them. I've located several bent slats in my blinds. So I raised the blinds a bit so he can see out. Soon, he'll be begging at the door every time it opens like he did at Nanny and Granddaddy's house.

  1. If strawberries are somehow bad for cats, don't yell at me. He got less than a half teaspoon of actual cobbler filling. All he did was lick the residue off my take-out container. With gusto.

It's for "pets" and I haven't got a good picture of Matt or Lucy, yet. And it didn't feel right to use Gremlin or Taz.

Should be no problem on the yogurt
Might even be good for their guts, although heavy dairy has been known to give cats loose stools.

The things to watch out for with cats: Onions and Garlic (big no-nos - can cause anemia and takes 60 to 90 days to wash out of the system)
Houseplants of all kinds (ASPCA has a list) Chocolate (Theobromine and caffeine make 'em hyper/stress heart and can hurt their livers) and...I'm sure there are other things.
Here's a list: http://cats.about.com/cs/catfood/a/humanfood.htm

Congrats on teh headway with Mr. Matt there, and with Lucy. Sounds like she's settling in nicely. :)

Re: Should be no problem on the yogurt
He gets no more of the yogurt than he did of the cobbler. I basically let him "lick the bowl" after I'm done eating the yogurt. I figure all he really wants is a taste anyway. :)
